Portrait Procedure
- How long does it take to paint or draw a portrait?
-
For paintings, it can take anywhere from 1-3 months (on average,) depending on the size and complexity of the portrait. This is due to the traditional layering techniques I use and the detail that goes into each piece.
For drawings, it can take anywhere from 1 week to a month, again, depending on the size and complexity of the portrait. The amount of detail is still present, but the time it takes to create it is far less than that of a painting because the layering in a drawing is far less complicated.
- Do you work from photos or from life?
-
I usually work from photos to avoid the inconvenience of posing live, which would take several hours per day for several weeks. I prefer to take my own reference photos, which allows me to get the best lighting possible, better composition, more accurate color, and allows me to get a three-dimensional mental reference.
I realize that it's not always a possibility to take my own reference photos. If necessary, I can work from your photos as long as they're not protected by copyrights and are sufficient for reference purposes.
Sometimes, it'll be necessary to do a live color study if the colors in the photo are not accurate enough. Basically, I try to mix my paint, live, to best match the colors I see in person so I can reference it later in my studio.
- What payment methods can I use?
-
I accept cash, checks, most major cards, and PayPal.
If necessary, I can also break up your payments so you can pay the remaining balance in monthly installments. The 30%, non-refundable deposit, however, will still be due at the start of the portrait.
- Long term Care, Problems, or Repairs
-
I will provide a care sheet with your portrait so you know the best practices in caring for your portrait so you can do your best in reducing any avoidable damage.
Although great care and attention has been put into the longevity, materials, and consistent quality of the work, over time (as with any artwork) there is a slight possibility that problems may occur. If you notice any adverse effects, I will repair them for you at no cost.
